A wonderful night!

July 16, 2009

Tonight was a great night!! I got my nails done at a wonderful home spa and I obtained a sponsor!!

I would really like to thank my sponsor Juicy Autobody!! My best friend Shelby's parents run the business and they are really devoted to their business and have gotten top ratings on their auto body shop. I am so happy they chose to sponsor me. It means so much to me. You can find their information on the google maps information page. If you are ever around the Saskatoon area and your car needs work you will know where to go!! Shelby, her mother and father have been like a second family to me. I am always over at their house chatting and well, eating their perogies :] I have gotten to know them and can connect with each family member including Shelby's Grandma, little brother and sister. It is so crazy that they are now sponsoring me too and I thank them from the whole of my heart. It means the world to know that they support me in representing our province and I will make them proud no matter what!

Shelby and I :]

Also tonight I went and got a pedicure at a new up and coming day spa in Saskatoon. The spa is called the Lily Pad Spa, owned and operated by Kyla Neufeld.

The thing that really struck me about the spa was the eco friendly and all natural products that it brings to its clients. This is really important to me because my platform is the environment and its protection. The spa was amazing! Kyla, who runs the spa did an amazing job and everything was soothing and safe on the environment! It is amazing how she is making a difference with her business from her own home simply by reducing waste and cutting out the use of harsh chemicals. The spa features really interesting techniques like threading, seen on Canada's next top model, and sugaring. Both of these techniques are for hair removal. Threading using string to almost swipe off the facial hair and sugaring to remove body hair just like waxing but a lot more natural and less uncomfortable. There are so many things that you can do at home to help keep our environment healthy and clean.  I really want to acknowledge Kyla for incorporating the eco conscious theme into all of her spa services. Way to go!!

Everything is not what it seems, Assignment #3

When I found this picture on the Free the Children website it grabbed my attention more than all the others. When I look at this photo I see a young boy who could be a son or nephew playing on his farm or a friends or relatives farm, what stands out even more is that to be he could be anywhere, Canada or even the U.S. Sadly he is not. Its amazing how many children in third world countries can still keep a bright face even though they they may be sick or starving. This little boy looks so happy to just be alive but who knows how much longer that could be, and is he really getting the best out of life? Free the Children is an organization of children helping children through education. Every child has the right to an education and they all deserve to get one. I could have posted a picture of children in third world countries learning in new schools set up by the foundation, but I didn't. This was the picture that really captured me, I want people to see it and think about what a day in the life of this little boy is like, he is always smiling but what does the smiling cover up?  This picture also states that somehow this is boy has a farm and it can't help but bring to mind the question, does he work there? Does this young boy already work at a farm in the hot sun when he could be learning instead? Children are working under harsh conditions in poor civilizations right now, all around the world. Children are starving and they are sick, they are orphans or have parents with extremely low incomes. These are the children that Free the Children help by building schools, supplying clean water sources, building medical centers and ultimately saving kids from child labour or exploitation. Every kid has the right to a good life, some just need help getting that life started.

Harry Potter!!!!

July 15, 2009

Last night, or I should say this morning, at 12:01 AM I attended the Harry Potter Pre-Premier!!!  The line up was so long it was insane, I had already bought my tickets for my mother and I ahead of time but once we got inside the line if front of the actual theater inside of Galaxy was huge. There were two theaters open inside, one showing at 12:01 which I got into and one at 12:02 which my friends Cara and Torrey got into. There were so many people but not a lot dresses up. There was one group though who had dressed up and one of the guys in the group looked just like Tom Felton, Draco Malfoy, it was so awesome he was kinda cute too. I really liked the movie, the story of course didn't totally follow the book, but it was still really good. I felt like the movie, it wasn't as action packed as the last one but it would be a really good movie to just sit down and watch and it is easy to enjoy, the story of course is really amazing but the movie was funny and cute on a different level than the book. My overall rating would be a 7.5 out of 10.

Assignment #2

July 14, 2009

Hey everyone, My name is Genevieve Tucker. This may get a little bit confusing, as my partner's name is also Genevieve as you can see.  For our second assignment we were asked to pair up with another contestant from a different province.  We are to make a travel brochure describing and showcasing the interesting parts of our hometowns.  Thank you fellow Genevieve for asking me to be your partner!

I am from Prince George, British Columbia.  Prince George is known as British Columbia's northern capital, as we are the biggest city north of BC.  A population of approximately 80,000 and rapidly growing.  Prince George sits at the confluence of two large rivers, the Nechako and Fraser.

Prince George is your gateway into northern British Columbia. Located at the crossroads of two major highways, Hwy 97 travelling north-south and Hwy 16, "The Yellowhead" goes in an east-west direction.  When people think Prince George, they think snow and an isolated town.  I have no idea who put this in their heads.  Prince George is quite large, and is always growing.  We have the Countries largest Walmart :)  Prince George is surrounded by beautiful wildlife attractions and has many activities for people of all age.  Whether you are going to Prince George to visit, or to stay for good, it welcomes all ages.  We have work available for everyone as well as education.  Prince George is an amazing place to raise a family and live a great life.

Below, Is a Picture Of "Mr. PG".  He is a historical statue symbolizing our city of Prince George, located at the Tourist centre.

Attractions

Fort George Park is a nice place to visit in Prince George.  It is Prince George's largest park, covering over 65 acres of well, maintained lawns and overlooking the Fraser River.  Right beside Fort George Park is the Fraser Fort Regional Museum which holds artifacts and stories of the early European Pioneers who settled in the region.  Fort George park is a fantastic place to have a picnic, watch performances on the stage, enjoy the volleyball and tennis courts, as well as play in the water park.

Our University is remarkable.  People from all over the world come to Prince George just to experience our University.  Unlike other Universities, UNBC can offer the same education and status as other Universities, but it is located in a more secluded, less hectic place, so students have unlimited opportunities.  On campus, recently the sports centre has been built.  Our sports centre is absolutely huge! It has four indoor soccer fields, an indoor running track, squash rooms, tennis rooms, a gym, and four indoor volleyball courts, or 2 basketball courts with stands to fit spectators.

Below is a picture of UNBC and it's sports Centre

If you are looking for a fun time in Prince George, there are nice theaters to visit to watch plays, musical performances, Ect. such as the Prince George Playhouse, and Theatre North West.  There is also our CN Centre where our WHL team (the Prince George Cougars) play every hockey season.  The CN centre has held many famous musicians and bands for concerts, as well as rodeos, magic shows, monster trucks, Ect. There is always something to do in Prince George, there is never a dull moment.

To top everything off, and if you are not convinced to visit Prince George yet, then I hope this will change your mind.  Prince George is surrounded by forests.  It is absolutely beautiful. I am so blessed to have grown up here.

You can drive ten minutes out of town in any direction you want and will end up in luscious green forests.  Drive 20 minutes past that and you can find yourself in a huge lake. Drive another half hour and climb up a mountain.  They call British Columbia beautiful for a reason, trust me, you would not be disappointed if you traveled to British Columbia.  It truely is an amazing place, in an amazing country.

First Quote

July 10, 2009

Music is an outlet. Plug yourself in. This quote means a lot to me, music is something that I will always be able to build and rely on. Music helps people through all kinds of problems and it is truly an outlet for the soul, So plug yourself in!!! Music can change your life but you will never really know what can happen until you let it into your life.

A dream come true, Assignment one.

June 25, 2009

Welcome to Saving the Runway! The show that brings you everything that you could ever want in late night TV; romance, action/adventure, fashion, drama, a little bit of fantasy and a lot of satisfying entertainment.

Saving the Runway is about the story of a girl, Genevieve Jones, with  a dream of saving the world, a dream that most people laugh at. Society sees her outer shell only, a super model who struts runways all over the world, they never could imagine that after her many fashion shows she replaces her high heels with combat boots and protects the rich socialites of the world by night, changing their lives and giving them a taste of how hard others have it all over the world and how lucky they are to have Genevieve saving them. Genevieve fights against kidnappers and murders who are a little out of norm usually sporting some sort of super power that Genevieve has to counter with her own powers. Genevieve has the power of flight trough the wings that she keeps hidden during her normal everyday life, the power of speed and hightened senses. What is Genevieve? You'll have to watch to find out.

With her busy lifestyle Genevieve has hardly any time for friends, family or significant others. Makes for good drama? You'll have to wait and see. Protecting her identity is so important. If you are one of those people who used to watch Sailor Moon and are longing for a similar story with more grown up ideals then there is no doubt that you will be staying up into the late hours of the night, noise to the TV waiting to find out what will happen next in the fabulously high pace life of a model hero.

The producers of Saving the Runway would like to thank the following sponsors:

The Yorkville Club for supplying the actors with all of the training equipment they need to keep up their good physiques.

FAZE Magazine, who support the show with adds in their magazine and also play a staring role in the series as Genevieve's favorite magazine and identity protector.

Red Bull for keeping the models and actors working full steam ahead to get episodes finished and for keeping our viewers and subscribers functioning long into the night to catch the show.

Fine Arts Night!

June 23, 2009

On June 4th my School held its first of three award ceremonies. I attended the all three, each being specially centered towards different categories of our school. The first was Fine Arts Night. Fine arts night pays tribute to all of the many art styles found at my school including: drama, visual art, band, creative writing, wood working, and photography. The night included poetic readings, band performances and of course the awards. Each catagory had its own awards to award and then the final group being the overall Fine Arts section.

From left to right, me, Heidi Wegren-Riley, Ali Antaya, Cailin Woodward, Anna Mazurik and Kathlene Whiteway all recieved the Outstanding Achievement in Fine Arts certificate.

The next set of awards were given out at the Athletic Banquet which featured all of the sports awards. The sweetest moment of the night was when a couple from our school received the outstanding award together, it was so sweet because everyone at our school knows that they will be together forever. The last round of awards was the academic awards given away at our schools Colour Day. During Colour Day we also received news that our yearbook won't be coming out until next semester. No one was too happy about that.

I'm so thankful for every musical talent that I received from my mother, it means so much to me to be able to create something and I cannot wait to preform a trumpet piece during the talent night at the national competition in Toronto this summer.

Undercover, Relay for Life

June 16, 2009

On June 12th, the Relay for Life hit Saskatoon and I soon found myself volunteering to help out and witness for the first time, all of what the relay for life is about. My Grandmother has someone come in everyday to help her around the house and one of the ladies suggested the Relay for Life to me. It was my first time but I had such a great and memorable time I know that I will be back again next year. Here is the link for the Canadian Cancer Societies Relay for Life, http://convio.cancer.ca/site/PageServer?pagename=RFL_CAN_home_accueil&s_locale=en_ca/.

Just last Christmas my Uncle Ken died from a serious brain tumor. Helping out at the relay didn't really affect me until it started to get dark and the luminaries that I had been selling all night began to light up the track. It was very emotional lighting my uncle's luminary but it really helped me to move on and I feel like the relay is something that I should be a part of next year.

Sadly I did not attend this even as a title holder, I decided not too because I had not learned about the relay until one night before so I decided that I would simply go to help out and enjoy myself. I did get a volunteer shirt which I took a couple of pictures with my tiara and sash. I really had a good time with the Polka Dot Cruisers, my Grandmother's home care helpers, and we shared a lot of laughs and a few tears too. I was surprised when I met Miss Rodeo Saskatchewan, we chatted for a bit about our different pageants and I wish her good luck in her pageant this summer in New Mexico! I hope she doesn't get too hot out there!
